William Levy Robinson, Jr., 88, of Crystal River, Fl passed
on January 1, 2022. Born March 4,
1933 in Webster, Sumter County, Fl and was the firstborn child in a family of
ten (10) in the union of the Late William Levy Robinson and Mary Lee Howard
Robinson. W. L. or Junior as he was
affectionately called attended the All-Black Mills High School in Webster,
graduating salutatorian of his class in 1951.
After high school, W. L. left the family farm to study
agriculture at the then All-Black Florida A and M College (FAMU) in
Tallahassee.
His college education was interrupted by a two-year tour
duty in the U S Army –1954 - 1956.
Upon his return from the armed service, W.L. continued his
college education and received his Bachelor of Science (B.S.) Degree from– NOW
Florida Agricultural and Mechanical
University (FAMU) in 1956.
He majored in Vocational
Agriculture and was aided by a Lewis State.
Scholarship he won.
It was during this time, he met the Love of His life, Euna Mable McKinnon and married on July
29, 1956.
He subsequently pursued graduate studies at both FAMU and
the University of Florida, receiving his Master of Education Degree in
Administration and Supervision at FAMU during the summer of 1967. W. L. held
numerous teaching and administrative positions in education throughout his
career.. He was Principal of the Florida
School for Boys, Okeechobee, Fl., 1958 - 1960; County Extension Agent for
Jackson County, Marianna, Fl, 1960 -1964; Principal of George Washington Carver
Junior High School, Crystal River, Fl, 1964-1969; County Extension Agent for
Leon County, Tallahassee, Fla, 1969-1970, teacher of Science and Vocational
Agriculture at Citrus High
School, Inverness, Fl 1970 – 1971; Supervisor of
Instruction for Citrus County School Board, Inverness, Fl, 1971 – 1985 and
Director of Personnel for the Citrus County School Board,1985 - 1995. He retired on June 30, 1995.
W. L. has a long history of service to the church and
community. At Mt Olive Missionary
Baptist Church, he was a Deacon, Church Coordinator, and Director of Christian
Education. He served as Assistant
Superintendent and Superintendent of the Sunday School as well as the Chairman
of the Auxiliary Board to the Second Bethel Missionary Baptist Association,
Ocala, Fl.
He was Past Master of Crystal Masonic Lodge #156 Crystal
River Fl., Companion of Jonathan Chapter #198 Holy Royal Arch Masons,
Dunnellon, Fl.; Prior of the University Consistory (32 Degree Mason),
Gainesville, Fl., and Past Vice President of C. J. Mackey Masonic Council,
Eustis, Fl.
His commitment for family and the strong influences of an
agricultural and administrative background and Christian Character combined
with his being the eldest of ten (10) children in a poor southern
sharecropper’s family, thrust W. L. into roles of family and community
leadership throughout his career. He willingly
and effectively filled those roles on numerous occasions. He was preceded in death by his father,
Reverend William Levy Robinson, Sr. (1981); His Mother, Mary Howard Robinson
(1983); His Wife, Euna McKinnon Robinson (2007); Two Brothers, George Wiley
Robinson and Raymond Jonathan Robinson (1991) and three sisters: Ernestine Robinson Hutcherson, Delores
Robinson Brown and Althea Robinson Gaskin (1985). He was also preceded in death by two
step-brothers: Earl Robinson, Damon Robinson and one step-sister, Rosa Lee
Robinson Brown.
He leaves to cherish his memory, Daughter, Preshus Robinson, Granddaughter Trivonna Wilson and a Great Grandson, Zy’al Denard; Brother, Dr. Ira Charles Robinson, Sr., (Clarice); Three Sisters, Lillie Robinson Biddle, Ella Robinson McNeary (Edward) and Ida Robinson Dawkins; Brother In-Law Marshall Brown; Six Sister In Laws, Vernell Callahan (Earl), Betty McKinnon, Ophelia Baker, Geneva Moore, Alease Smith , Essie McKinnon and a special caregiver Wilma Sylvester; aunt and a host of nephews, nieces, grand nephews, grand nieces, cousins and caring friends.
Celebration of Life - will be held Saturday January 15, 2022 at 11:00 am at Mt Olive Missionary Baptist church 2105 North Georgia Rd. Crystal River Fl 34429
Interment- Crystal Memorial Gardens Cemetery
