Hubert “Jack” DeLaine
Obituary
Hubert Hoover DeLaine affectionately known as "Jack" passed away on Thursday, July 27, 2023 in Brooksville, FL. He was born on November 4, 1928 in Brooksville, Florida to the late Steve and Mamie (Roache) DeLaine. He was named after Herbert Hoover, the 31st president of the United States, but his social security paperwork was filled out incorrectly as "Hubert"; he never changed it. Jack spent most of his life in Hernando County. He briefly spent some time in Edenville, Florida where he worked for his brother at his construction company. After acquiring a lot of valuable experience laying blocks, pouring cement, and erecting truss, he decided to return home and work for himself. He became licensed and started his own construction company in 1971. He was a master block mason and cement finisher by trade before retiring in 2006 at the age of 78. Jack enjoyed gardening, his family, reminiscing of old times, and making people laugh. He was lovingly called mayor of Timmons Settlement.
He is survived by two children: daughter, Evelyn K. DeLaine Simmons (Alan) of Gainesville, FL; and son, Kenneth S. DeLaine (significant other, Etta Castillo) of Brooksville, FL; four grandchildren: Kanisha Stewart DeLaine, Kelsey Simmons, Cordia Simmons, and Karen Simmons. Two great grand-children, Camilah Simmons and Eli Fleming. Three surviving sisters: Gussie DeLaine Washington and Theresa DeLaine Scriven (Henry) of Brooksville, FL; and Susan DeLaine Allen of Lakeland, FL. One surviving brother: Howard DeLaine (Almazine), Brooksville, FL. Special friend, Blanche Rushing. Special niece and nephew, Tammy DeLaine and Harry DeLaine, Jr. Special neighbors, James and Pam Thomas. A host of nieces, nephews, cousins, Timmons Settlement (Country) family, and sorrowing friends.
