Jeanette Thomas Obituary

Obituary
Jeanette L. Thomas was born on October 28, 1945, in Crystal River, Florida, to Amos and Mae Ola Floyd. She was called home by Almighty God on Sunday, September 14, 2025, at 8:54 PM at Tampa General Hospital in Crystal River, Florida.
Jeanette accepted Christ at an early age and attended Mt. Olive Baptist Church in Crystal River, where she faithfully served with her gift of music as the church musician.
Her hobbies included cooking, reading, fishing, and most of all, playing her beloved piano.
Jeanette married her longtime sweetheart, John H. Thomas, in the 1960s. To this union, four children were born:

Mechelle Humbert (Henry) Jwana Dickerson (Tony), John Thomas, Jr. (Nneka), Tony Thomas, and adopted daughter, Sandra Landers. Children she loved as her own, Sherryl Kindred(Henry), Patricia Green (Lewis), Leslie/ Charmaine Pierce, Jeff Hollis (Donna), Jacques Thomas, Tanaya Mitchell, and others .

Jeanette was a graduate of Booker T. Washington High School in Inverness, Florida, Class of 1963. She went on to study at Jackson Junior College in Marianna, Florida (1963–1964), majoring in Music Education, and later attended Hampton Junior College in Ocala, Florida, where she earned her Associate of Arts degree in 1964.
Her love for music began at the age of seven, when she started piano lessons. She grew up playing for her church, funerals, weddings, concerts, and community events. She was even blessed to play for gospel legend Shirley Caesar in Asbury Park, New Jersey.
Jeanette worked diligently throughout her life. She was employed as a sales clerk at Steinback Department Store in Asbury Park, NJ; as a teacher’s aide for the Monmouth County School Board (1967–1968); and as a private duty nurse’s aide with Stauffers Nursing Registry in Long Branch, NJ (1971–1975).
After returning to Florida, she served the Citrus County School Board at Crystal River Middle School (1976–1981) in various positions, including substitute teacher, attendance aide, clerk, and secretary. From 1981–1985, she worked at Daniel Construction/Florida Power Corporation in the Human Resources Office as a clerk receptionist and nuclear operation support. She then faithfully served as the front desk receptionist at TLC Physical Therapy in Homosassa, Florida, from 2002 until her retirement in 2019.
Jeanette was preceded in death by her parents, Amos and Mae Ola Floyd; her husband, John Thomas; her grandparents, Ada and Fred D. McKinnon, Sr.; her sisters, Mary Frances Watkins and Annette McCoy-Brooks; her brother, Kent Clark (Cynthia); and a host of other family and friends.
She leaves to cherish her memory: four children, Mechelle, Jwana, John Jr., and Tony; her adopted daughter, Sandra; three sisters, Cynthia (Cookie) Williams, Sheila Green (Tommy, deceased), Sheila Tribble (Larry, deceased), and Terri Ann Nelson (Larry); nine grandchildren, Xavier, Brianna, Zachary, Deja, Javohn, Geni, Jalen, Taylor, and Jace; along with nieces, nephews, friends, and her church family.
Jeanette lived a life of faith, service, and music, and her legacy will live on through all who loved her.
