John Watkins Jr. Obituary

We are Deeply Saddened to announce the passing of John Douglas Watkins Jr. Please remember his family in your thoughts and prayers as they mourn the loss of their loved one.

John D. Watkins Jr was born to the late Rev John D. Watkins Sr and Missionary Jimmie Lee Watkins of Crystal River, FL.  John Jr grew up in his childhood home with his parents until such time after his parents demise, he became a resident of Crystal River Health and Rehabilitation Center, and then on to Brentwood Assistant Living Facility, Lecanto, Florida.  Due to constricted abilities to attend public schooling, John was a self-taught young man teaching himself to learn many trades that he shared with the neighborhood and community alike.  John was a help to many people; exhibiting and unselfishly sharing his knowledge of welding, lawn mower repairs, and even teaching others to fish. John loved to fish and occasionally would have others join him. He taught himself to play the guitar, always taking a moment to play a song whenever someone would stop by the house. You could even hear him as you passed by the house because he would connect his guitar to an amplifier and have his own session. John loved gospel music especially The Mighty Clouds of Joy and would play his records and tapes throughout the day and night. He was also a creative artist, drawing pictures and creating beautiful woodwork pieces. He loved his nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. Giving them all nicknames, he was very protective of his “babies”, although he never experienced having children of his own.  So many memories and so many stories cannot be written or captured on a brief platform such at this, but we know that he touched so many lives in so many ways. Preceding him in demise: father Rev John D Watkins Sr, mom Mrs. Jimmie Lee Watkins, sisters: Willie Mae Watkins-Cox and Margaret Griffin. He leaves to cherish those moments: (sister) Mrs. Ida L Brooks (Charles Sr); Nieces/Nephews: Anita Collins (Willie Jr), Shelaine Webster (Keith), Lynnette Brooks, Charles Brooks Jr (Amanda), Bryant Brooks (Denise), Bryan Brooks (JoJo), Julius Griffin, and Cordell Griffin. -Aunts: Mrs. Mary F Watkins of Crystal River, and Mrs. Altamese Watkins of Lakeland, FL. Great-nieces and nephews; Octavia Strawder, Tacara Watkins, Jeremy Brooks, Clarence Brown II, Brandon Brown (Janai), Amesha Sexton, Chalacia Brooks, Khyesha Brooks, Keiyah Webster, and Treshawn Brooks. Great-great nieces and nephews: Jalen Strawder, Naraiya Strawder, Elijah Nelson, Alana Brooks, Anaiya Brown, William Brooks, Asa Brooks, Kaizlyn Rosario, and Keeva Brooks. And so many more family and friends.
