OBITUARY FOR JORGE ESCAMILLA WRIGHT
August 23, 1960 was a joyful day for Earl and Eloise Wright, as they welcomed the last of their “tribe”, Jorge Escamilla Wright. Jorge was a much loved child who was doted upon by his older siblings. He was given the nickname, Toutie, and received the royal treatment as he often paraded around in his special robe. He later earned the nickname of “S” by his family, or called Escamilla by his many friends and other relatives.
Jorge relished the attention he got from his mother and sister as they cheered him on as he played Catcher on the Little League team. Jorge attended public School and graduated from Hernando High in 1978. While at Hernando High, he participated in Track, Football, Wrestling and Tennis teams. Upon graduation, Jorge entered Clark College(now known as Clark Atlanta University), where he earned a Bachelors Degree in Political Science. While in Atlanta, Jorge confessed Christ as his personal savior and joined the fellowship of Friendship Baptist Church of College Park.
Upon graduation, Jorge became employed with the Citi Bank Corporation. He later transferred to Miami, as a Collections Supervisor working in the Doral office. He would later work as collections manager and supervisor with two Financial Institutions and Mortgage company.
During his time in the Miami area, Jorge celebrated the birth of the two loves of his life, son Jorge, Jr and daughter Jana Elicia, whose accomplishments he was proud of. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and showing off his culinary skills. Jorge harbored the desire to become a Kappa man, and was initiated into the Miami Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, on October 5, 1996 as #1 of the 12 Golden Disciples of the Diamond. Jorge was also a member of the fraternal order of Masons.
In the latter years of Jorge’s life, he returned to his birth home, where he remained until his demise on Friday, April 7, 2023.
