Kathryn Kirkey Obituary

Kathryn Ann (Joslyn) Kirkey
Kathy was born in Durand Michigan February 29, 1944. She went home to be with our Lord and
Savior June 12, 2025, after a short time fighting pancreatic cancer. Kathy was 81 years old, or
according to her, 20 years old thanks to her leap year birthday.
Kathy graduated from Lakeville HS in Columbiaville, Michigan in 1962. Shortly after graduation
she met the love of her life, Frederick Kirkey, of Fenton Michigan. Fred and Kathy were married
December 14, 1963. They were together always, for 63 years, “attached at the hip”, still in love
and the best of friends. They have four children who all love one another and know the
importance of a loving, caring family because of their union; Dawn Marie (Jeffrey) Daniels of
Noblesville, Indiana, Rebecca Lynn (Bill) Batrow of New Port Richey, Florida, Elizabeth Ann
(Robert) Dowling of Linden, Michigan and Jonathan Frederick Kirkey of Burton, Michigan. She
leaves behind four grandsons, Nicholas and Lukas Batrow, Jack Dowling, and Kaiden Kirkey.
Kathy is survived by her siblings; Beverly, Richard, Bill, and Alice Joslyn. She was preceded in death
by her parents William Lee and Beatrice Mae (Smith) Joslyn as well as her brother, Roger.
Kathy worked at Dancer’s fashions in Fenton, Michigan for many years where she built lasting
friendships. After retiring, she and Fred moved to Mio, Michigan and enjoyed the great outdoors,
hunting, exploring, traveling and antiquing.
Over the past 10 years Fred and Kathy have spent winters in Florida, becoming official Brooksville,
Florida residents in 2022. This is where she has lived her “best life”. Kathy was a passionately
gifted quilter who enjoyed being part of the Clover Leaf Quilters. She worked tirelessly making
quilts for the VA and other charitable organizations. She was incredibly talented and had many
hobbies but sewing has always been her favorite. She loved to plant flowers and play in the dirt,
painting, macramé, stained glass, home improvement. Too many interests to list. She enjoyed
spending time with family and friends, shopping at thrift stores and playing cards. Her friends
and family alike will tell you she was a very giving soul and always put everyone else first. Kathy
was a lovely lady, a beautiful and sassy wife and the best of Moms. She will be missed always.
Celebrations of life will be held in Fenton, Michigan this summer and in Brooksville, Florida in the
fall; dates to be determined.
