Obituary
Gwendolyn Louise Clayton Gates was born on April 25, 1942, to Leontine Thompson Clayton and Robert Clarence Clayton. She attended the local and public schools of Glynn County, attending Brunswick, Ga. Jr. High, and High Schools. Louise was a Woman of many gifts. She worked as a Dental Assistant for many years. She also worked as a Correctional Officer in Pasco County, School Instructor for the Hernando County School system and with the American Red Cross Disaster Volunteer Team. She was a member of Allen Temple AME Church under the leadership of the former leader, Pastor Lewis. She served faithfully as a mother of the church until her health begin to fail.
She was preceded in death by: her parents, Mrs. Leontine Thompson Clayton and Robert Clarence Clayton; her husband, Mr. Arthur R. Gates Jr.; granddaughters, Da’nae Watts and Isabella Scavelli; grandson, Larry Gates Jr. and great niece, Kelsenisa Harris.
She leaves to cherish her special memories: two daughters, LaShawn Smith-Pope and Nedda Francine Kelly (Frank) both of Brooksville, FL; two Sons, Larry Gates Sr. (Tomyka) of Brooksville, FL and Arthur R. Gates III (Virginia) of Houston, Texas; one sister, Bonita Williams Maner of Brooksville, FL; one brother, Fredrick D. Clayton (Cassandra) of Brooksville, FL; fourteen grandchildren; six great grandchildren; special granddaughter, Shakona Smith; special cousin, Stalicia Gaile Roundtree and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and sorrowing friends.
