OBITUARY
The Life Tribute To
Richard Eugene Gamble, Jr.
Richard “Red” Gamble was born on November 20, 1933, in Consul, Alabama (Marengo County), to the late Richard and Callie (Baldwin) Gamble. He was preceded in death by his sister Menda Gamble Pettway, and brothers Andrew “Boone,” Fred, Emanuel “Jack“ and Alex “Baysho.“ His lone surviving sibling is Eugene “Ole Gene” of Mobile, AL.
Richard was known to be the most free-spirited of the seven Gamble children. With his adventurous spirit and self-motivated wits, he left Alabama at the young age of seventeen while working on the Seaboard Coastal Line Railroad, as a Boxcar Waste Transporter. Thereafter, he settled in Brooksville, Florida and secured employment with the Dairy Juice Plant and joined Lykes Memorial Hospital, as a Patient Transport Orderly. He went on to become a Citrus Fruit Contractor in FL and NY. He later drove for Oakley Trucking, Inc., and lastly acquired ownership and operated Huff’s Fruit and Vegetable Company in Murdock, FL until his retirement.
Richard, like his siblings, was talented and gifted. He had a knack for numbers, was a great fisherman and enjoyed gardening and hunting. He also cherished his family and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his son Richard Bruce Gamble.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his children: Curtis Norwood, Germany; Richard Charles Gamble, Philadelphia, PA; Louis (Annie) Lee, Uniontown, AL; Jacqueline Gamble Clemons, Pinellas Park, FL; Rev. Clarence (Connie) Green, Land O’Lakes, FL; Angelia Everett, Orlando, FL; Lay’wan Gamble, Upper Marlboro, MD; Elder Bruce (Debra) Everett, Fort Mitchell, AL; Elder Aundre (Angela) Green, Wesley Chapel, FL; Emanuel (Pamela) Gamble, Valrico, FL; Evg. Shirley (Leroy) Gamble Moultry, Tampa, FL; Blake (Marquita) Thompson, Stone Mountain, GA and Britni Gamble, Wauchula, FL.
Richard loved, and was loved by a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nephews, nieces, cousins, other extended family and friends.
