Obituary
Rosa Etta Land Perry was born in Brooksville, Florida on April 23, 1928. Her parents were Allie Mae Larry Land and Esau Land. Rosa was the first born to this union. Two other girls were born each two years apart, Carrie Bell and Hazel Mae. She was raised in Hernando County and attended local schools here. She graduated from Moton High School (Hernando County) in the class of 1946. Rosa Etta attended college for one and a half years at FAMC (Florida Agricultural and Mechanical College) in Tallahassee, Florida. In 1950, she left Florida and moved to Trenton, New Jersey to reside with relatives there. She remained in New Jersey until 1980.
She married George Perry of Trenton, New Jersey. The marriage ended in divorce. In New Jersey, Rosa Etta pursued a career in nursing. She remained employed in the state of New Jersey for nearly thirty years.
Rosa Etta returned to her home state of Florida in 1980. She returned to reside in her home town of Brooksville in 1994. She was employed at the Veteran’s Hospital in St. Petersburg, Florida. Later, she was employed in Brooksville.
Rosa Etta was baptized and became a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church as a teenager, where she was a member of the junior choir and participated in other youth programs. She became a member of Union Baptist Church in Trenton, New Jersey where she was an active usher until she returned to Florida, at which time she restored her membership at her home church – Bethlehem Baptist Church in Brooksville. There she was a member of the senior choir, briefly.
Rosa Etta was also a member of the local NAACP, where she served on several committees. She attended NAACP national conventions in Boston, St. Louis, Los Angeles, New York and Atlantic City, New Jersey.
