Mr. Walter Smith was born on June 3, 1928, in Uniontown Alabama. With limited education he moved and reside in Brooksville Florida with his family years ago. He retired from Florida Crushed Stone Rock Mine, where he worked as a heavy equipment operator. He was a dedicated worker who loved and took great care of his family.
Walter took flight from his earthly home to his heavenly home on August 4, 2025, surrounded by family. He was blessed with the longevity, and divine favor from God to be on this earth for 97 years. Act 17:28 “For in him we live and move and have our being.”
Walter was a true gardener at heart. He cultivated, and manage his garden to where he loves growing his own vegetables, and some fruits. He found joy and fulfilment in nurturing his plants as he watches them grow, and thrive.
Even though Walter wasn’t on the payroll with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, but he was a serious coach from the couch. Football was his favorite sport, he didn’t miss a game. He always had a few choice words for the team whether they were winning or losing. He had a witty, and sharp sense of humor to where he had the ability to think quickly. He was always able to provoke laughter from his humorous, and insightful comments. He leaves you feeling entertain, and engaged along with a memorable moment where you will never forget him. He had the ability to fix and put things together with whatever tools, and equipment he had at hand, a creative mind. A true father who played a vital role in the lives of all his children with love. He spoke with immense pride and joy about his grandchildren.
Walter was preceded in death by his wife, Clarice Smith, one daughter, Geraldine Smith, and one son, Roberts Smith. Two sister, Mary Gardener, Fannie Thomas, and one brother, Willie Smith.
Walter leaves to cherish dear memories to five children; Clara Daniel (James) Atlanta Ga, Waltermae Washington-Lawson (Calvin), David Smith (Kathy), Johnny Smith, Angela Smith-Roberts, Winston Salem, NC. Three sisters; Willie Mae “Coop” Shepard, Alabama, Lee Ethel Johnson, New York, Ella Mae Whitt, Indiana. Two brothers; Evan Smith (Victoria), Indiana, James Smith, Indiana. He had 16 wonderful grandchildren and 17 blessed great grandchildren, and 4 great great grandchildren. A special friend, and son-in-law Calvin Lawson (Joe). A host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends and family. May the memory of Walter Smith bring comfort to all who knew and loved him. He will truly be missed.
